The AMG Unit Will Make The Future AMG SLS Supercar Electric

The German edition Focus made a sensation. In an interview with journalists, Mornhinweg Volker, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AMG, revealed a totally unexpected version of the future development of SLS supercar. Recall that this model is the joint brainchild of parent company Mercedes-Benz and AMG, and it will appear in 2012 and will replace the most successful project SLR McLaren.

So, Volker said that by 2015 fully electric version of supercar will be presented on the market! According to preliminary data, the vehicle instead of the normal atmospheric V8 6.2 received four electric engines by Brusa company with a total capacity of 532 hp (880 N • m). Two of them will be placed with a set of lithium-ion batteries on  the rear axle, the other two – on the front under the hood

The dynamics of acceleration in such a machine is expected like that - up to one hundred for about 4 s, but the maximum speed is not too impress the imagination and will be only 200 km / h. Gasoline version will be faster - 3,8 c to 100 km / h and 315 km / h top speed. But owning an electro supercar, will help you to save money on gasoline, and the maximum distance without a recharge will be somewhere at 150-180 km. That’s enough for a small tour during the weekend.

The electric version will come without the traditional gearbox, but the system will be recovering energy during braking.

The previous one, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was inspired by the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR of 1955, based on the W196 F1 car, yet named after the road-going 300SL Gullwing. On 4 April 2008, Mercedes announced they will cease production of the SLR. The last of the coupes rolled off the production line at the end of 2007 and the roadster version is due to be discontinued in early 2009.
